AudioQuest Golden Gate - Where the San Francisco Peninsula reaches up from the south, Marin County stretches down from the north, and the two almost touch, the meeting of landmass and ocean creates an almost magical atmosphere. Captain John C. Fremont named this site “Chrysopylae” in 1846, meaning “golden gate.” The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world from 1937 to 1964, until it was surpassed by almost 18 meters by the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in New York City. The longest column width is 1,280 meters and the width of the bridge is 27 meters; the supports rise to 227 meters above the water level.

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER CONDUCTORS (PSC): Perfect-Surface copper has an amazingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal processing technology protects the surface of the wire at every step of drawing and manufacturing. When high-purity, low-oxygen copper is obtained as soft, pure, and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion conductor. For more than 30 years, AudioQuest has pioneered the use of high quality metals; but even we were surprised by the huge leap in performance. PSC outperforms metals previously used at AQ, which cost more than ten times as much. The mutual electrical and magnetic influence of the strands in conventional cable structures is the greatest source of interference and often causes an “unclean”, “rough” sound. Solid conductors are the fundamental basis for the Golden Gate's pure sound.

POLYETHYLENE FOAM INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor becomes part of an incomplete electrical network. Wire insulation and circuit board material absorb energy (losses). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Golden Gate uses air-filled polyethylene foam insulation for both conductors because air absorbs almost no energy and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to the air in the polyethylene foam, it causes significantly less blurring effects than other materials.

METAL LAYER NOISE DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): Achieving 100 percent shielding is easy. To prevent “trapped” RF interference from affecting the device’s ground reference, the AudioQuest Noise Dissipation System is required. It prevents most RF interference from reaching the ground plane of the device.

DOUBLE-BALANCED ASYMMETRICAL GEOMETRY: Designed specifically for single-ended applications, Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry offers less impedance on the ground for a fuller, more dynamic sound result. While many single-ended cables use a single path for both ground and shielding, double-balanced designs separate both for a cleaner, quieter performance.

COLD-WELDED, GOLD-PLATED RCA CONNECTORS: This connector design allows connections without solder - as this is a common source of interference. Because the ferrules are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be selected for low distortion rather than machinability.
