AudioQuest Yukon

AudioQuest Yukon History:

Yukon is Athabascan and means “Great River”. Its source is the Llewellyn Glacier in British Columbia and the mouth is at the Bering Sea in Alaska. It may represent the original settlement route of the first North American natives. It was certainly the main transport route during the Klondike Gold Rush 1896-1903. Paddle steamers remained the primary mode of transportation on the river until the Klondike Highway was completed in the 1950s. Yukon king salmon remains a rare, highly prized delicacy today.

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER+ CONDUCTORS (PSC+): Perfect-Surface-Copper+ has a surprisingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal processing technology protects the surface of the wire at every step of drawing and manufacturing. When high-purity, low-oxygen copper is obtained as soft, pure, and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion PSC+ conductor. The production of PSC+ uses the same exceptional technology as ultra-pure copper. The resulting sound quality is even more focused and unobtrusive. For more than 30 years, AudioQuest has pioneered the use of high quality metals; but even we were surprised at the huge leap in performance made possible with Perfect Surface technology. PSC+'s performance exceeds all previously available copper metals at every price level. All conductors in the Yukon are massive. The mutual electrical and magnetic influence of the strands in conventional cable structures is the greatest source of interference and often causes an “unclean”, “rough” sound. Solid conductors are the fundamental basis for the Yukon's pure sound.

POLYETHYLENE AIR TUBE INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor becomes part of an incomplete electrical network. Wire insulation and circuit board material absorb energy (losses). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. In the Yukon, PE Air Tube insulation is used for all conductors because air absorbs almost no energy and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. The PE Air Tube insulation causes significantly less blurring effects than other materials.

CARBON-BASED 3-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): Achieving 100 percent shielding is easy. To prevent “trapped” RF interference from affecting the device’s ground reference, the AQ noise dissipation system is required. Metal and carbon-containing plastics prevent most RF interference from reaching the device's ground plane.

TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: The three conductors in Yukon “Triple-Balanced” cables, whether assembled with RCA or XLR connectors, ensure that equally low-distortion conductor paths are available to the positive and negative signals. The 100% shielding is never used as an inferior conductor.

COLD-WELDED DIRECT SILVER-PLATED PURE “PURPLE COPPER” CONNECTORS: This connector design allows connection without solder – as this is a common source of interference. Because the ferrules are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be selected for low distortion rather than machinability. Purple-Copper offers a purer, clearer sound than nickel-plated or OFHC metals often found in competitive plugs. Direct silver plating represents another important step towards greater clarity without affecting the signal.
